HVDC project business
HVDC is called high voltage direct current and the solution for the low loss transmission of electricity over long distances; it can typically transfer 30 to 40% more power than a three-phase line.
The high voltage direct current can be carried out the same as AC transmission in the form of overhead lines or underground cables. In addition to the power poles and lines or the underground cables, a converter station is required at both ends of a high voltage direct current route which transforms the direct and alternating current into each other. The converter station provides the connection between an HVDC line and a three-phase main.
These converter stations require large amounts of film capacitors and Steinerfilm® P is a natural choice. In addition our film is used in capacitors to store energy temporarily for offshore windfarms. There appears to be no alternative than to use this high voltage technology. We are now processing a significant volume for global HVDC projects; note our metallized film is also used for HVDC Classic applications.
