Automotive applications with Steinerfilm

++++ Tipping Point: The future for electric cars is running ++++ EV´S to overtake Hybrids in Europe ++++ As pioneer we have been supplying into the future since the beginning ++++

Greater requirements are being placed on power electronics within the car industry. Steinerfilm provides an ever increasing demand for metallized BOPP film for their use as follows:

  • DC link power capacitors for battery electric vehicles (⇒ BEV) and plug-in/hybrid electric vehicle (⇒ PHEV/HEV). Meanwhile, we have been supplying this market since 2009!

Steiner purely specialises in producing metallized film for capacitors whilst typical ultra/supercapacitors are manufactured by others. The thickness range for BEV and PHEV/HEV started at 2.7 micron and is now steadily going down to 2.4/2.2 and 1.9 micron (only BOPP base film). This wafer-thin film (0.0019 mm) is the most thermally stressed automotive film produced by us.

Our R & D department has been pushed constantly since the beginning of the new millennium to create an even better product. This now makes Steiner the first contact for customers worldwide who produce a highly sensitive product with the appropriate know-how.

Other areas of automotive applications for Steiner are as follows:

  • 48-Volt Technologies
  • Start-stop systems
  • DC link capacitors for electric motor drives
  • RFI capacitors (e.g. X2)
  • partially obsolete capacitors at HID headlamps (Xenon headlights)

Note: these examples may use different base films and metallizations and are often highly confidential.
